Re: Electrical Misadventure...
It could be real, I can’t say for sure I wasn’t there. But to get those pix in that time frame would have taken a lot of luck and check the guy in the bucket. The guy on the pole gets hit and falls, a process that would take two seconds, give or take, and make a loud noise and a large flash. Although the guy in the bucket has moved, it doest look like he is reacting to the explosion.
The guy on the pole looks to be in an unusual position for climbing and he isn’t wearing a scare strap or, as far as I can make out, any other climbing gear. When the flair hits his right leg it extends down, what appears to be about ten feet, past the street light, bypassing the grounded conductor on the secondary he is standing on and the ground provided by the street light.
I don’t like the look of the whipping cable either. It looks to be longer in the second picture than the first. In daylight the background of the second pic shouldn’t have turned red. It might have using a digital camera, but the elongation of the pix indicates a 35mm.
Even if the area is a residential section the voltage is probably at least 13k and maybe more. Voltage that high tends to make it own rules. I could be wrong, it could be real. It just looks funny enough to me to activate my natural skepticism.

Re: Electrical Misadventure...
on a counter note, theyre not faked:
i just saw a similar thing on TV, where a group of workers were trying to get this drunk guy down cos he was climbing up a pole.
they *thought* they had turned the electicity off, however one was still live, and one of the workers accdently grabbed it.
this was in daylight, and on most cameras the brightness caused from the flash would make everything else dark, as it did on the footage i saw, and thus the bckground looks dark, theres a technical term for it, cos i actually used it to great effect in a short movie i did a while back. something to do with over-exposion, where the camera trys to make up for the sudden burst of light.
the redness i cant explain, but in the footage i saw it went pinky red too, i guess thats the main colour given off? im sure there is a reason though.
the fact that the guy isnt wearing safty gear is explained in the story, hes drunk and hes climbing it for no reason. he was in a wierd position, but youd kinda expect that from a guy so drunk he climbed a deathtrap...
now, yes, the photos are takin FAR to quickly together, however, i have an explination that *could* be right:
this guy was drunk, hence he couldnt have climbed quickly, now im guessing you dont see this every day, so people ill have gone and grabbed videocameras, i meen, people grab them for less extreem stuff than that, just watch 'worlds most amasing videos' from time to time...
now, there are tonnes of programs to take stills off of film, mainly for digital footage, and who knows what else could have been in that footage, so they took some of the best shots and saved them seperatly.
the fact that the guy dosnt move, well, this explosion happened in, like, a second, the photos taken within about 4 or 4 seconds, thus the guy wouldnt have had time to react in any magor way by the las frame.
the whipping cable dosnt look any onger, though, the curve is alot shallower in the second, just about the same as before. not tomention the cable was slacked anyway, so more could be on camera cos hes actually pulling it (muscles contract, pulls cable towards him)
lastly, it is pretty maraculouse he survived, but its not impossible, the footage i saw, the guy survived, granted he was strapped in so didnt fall, but the drunk guy would be more limp, and we dont know in what surcumstances he landed. i dont think hed be missing any limbs...
