I'd only want three things: college tuition, a bowflex, and a purebred husky puppy.

The rest (assuming the dog doesn't drain the account) can all go to charities and "Saving the Whatever" organizations. I'd be sure to put in a great deal for sharks, for so few people do. emoticon

Everyone seems to pretty much agree ...

 - give up work (my Dad used to say it was the worst four letter word)
 - invest and live off the interest
 - take care of family and friends
 - give the rest to our favourite worthy causes

But what then? Could I really cope with life being a permanent holiday?

YES OF COURSE I COULD!

There is a lifetime of learning to be had ... and if it was an obscene amont of money, there's the X-prize, but we are all a bit late now. And have the time to write those books ... create some music ... take some photos ... maybe learn to paint ... build a house ... travel ... and most of all, spend every day with my kids as they grow up, to teach them, just to be there for them as a true father.

Oh and the thought of we proud Brits keeping our pounds is sort of romantic but somehow I think we ought to join the rest of the human race and get with the program. I take the long view ... in a hundred years they will be treating pounds, miles, ounces etc as total anachronisms from a by-gone age.

So, have any of you ever thought, with the amount of money pouring in yearly, where all of it goes? emoticon

Everytime a politican on the news quotes some huge amount of money, divide it by 300 million (in the US; 60 million in the UK) and that's how much of YOUR money he's talking about.

Example: "The White House is downplaying published reports of an estimated $50 billion to $60 billion price tag for a war with Iraq, saying it is "impossible" to estimate the cost at this time."

(That's $200 you've paid for that)

"the House Appropriations Committee approved a $19.4 billion foreign aid bill for next year."

($64 from you)

"Budget will reinforce ability of police and defence forces to counter global terrorism, £1bn for anti-terrorism spending this year"

(£16 out of my pocket)

etc.

Isn't that beautiful? We're spending billions of dollars "helping" a country thousands of miles away get back on its feet, and yet we can't even afford new US Government textbooks? So, not ONLY is the United states government sending people to their deaths, they're making it even harder for high school students to pass the SOL's. What ever happened to the priorities?!

They are priorities, and if you ask me I think a little more emphasis needs to be put on those which are occurring on the home front as we speak. Yes, the Iraq incident IS important, but in the menatime Congress is pretty much forgetting that the American people still require services from time to time. All we ever hear about now is the election or "What's Going on in Iraq?". A quick reprieve while we hear about the Laci peterson case, then back to "Bush said this, Kerry reported it was a lie" and so on. Have they all forgotten that kittens are still being drowned in buckets?!

That was irony, Ahlyssah... Subtle irony...

I know exactly what you mean, but ...rest assured that NO government anywhere in the world (be it republican, democratic, communist, Taliban-ish or whatever) will EVER give a tiny !@#$ about the "wars" that are being carried out on the "home front" (the word "home" being taken literally and/or metaphorically)...

Imperium (ANY imperium) doesn't care how kitties are being drowned... Imperium is a self-preserving machine that consumes lives, environment, peace, ideologies, morality, and ...kitties in order for itself to keep on moving... It's a global phenomenon... Too bad we all serve (more or less / willingly or unwillingly) as expendable/replaceable gears to this horrific machine...

on the euro subject; i think, stuff the euro, if the conversion statements in post 2 are right, its 3 ausie dollars per pound, all of brittain could triple its money if the governments play it right.
if you play the conversions right, i reckon you could double your money, easy.
but yeah, english pride, we rule, and also if we did change wed loose SO MUCH money.

wiiith 5000000 quid, iiid invest 4/5ths of it into 4 differnt banks, and keep the other 5th verrrry safe, for every day use.
id keep the first penny change from it as a lucky penny.
1 of my banks would be used for various differnt appeals and so on, like wwf, and those 3rd world things. with the intrest it could keep giving money to the charitys for decades.
one of them id keep for my family, to be kept mainky unused, the intrest is what would be used, but if say my brother wound up in jail (which seems likly) i could bail him out, IF i felt like it, lol. itd be kept through the ages as a gift, and possibly added to by the remainder of one of my other bank accounts. some money going towards schools.
1 year later id break the seal on a differnt bank account and use it to buy myself a part in a movie, since my agent dosnt seem to be botherd with getting me another job. all i need is to get in a film and have that put on DVD, and then il have been on pretty much every media type i can think of (radio, TV, stage, newspaper and the news ive already coverd, repetadly) and i would continue to do so until someone casts me in a movie anyway. after that itl be spent on body gaurds.

thats 3, i have one left, ok, the forth would probably be for my freinds, and me, since im my friend, so that i dont haveta sepnd any of the 1000+ kept for my family on my other friends. that includes all you off runboard, iiiff i felt like it i could lend ya some money ;)

i think thats about it, yeah.

*added* no wait, if i had enough, id either go for president (or some high-powerd job) or start a group of people to over throw the government.

Uh, buy another part in a movie?

Well, in that case, could you buy my drama department as well? I'm getting sick of the favoritism and the censorship chaos that ensues with every damn production. In exchange I'll cast you in one of MY plays. emoticon

£5,000,000 would go nicely into my Invasion of Antartica project, which I expect to be complete by 2043, and to be under my full control by 2045, depending on how fast I can get my geneticaly modified earth worm army to move.

Once under my control, I will use the snow and ice to become the worlds largest producer of renta-ice for countries like england that sadly never gets it in december anymore. Once all the ice is gone, I can then sell off parts of antartica as tropical resorts so I can retire in 2058, by which time I'd be 71. I'd then stupidly buy a flat somewhere in swindon, the most tacky town in the UK, where its always windy.

Lol, yeah AVP wernt that great, it was too fast paced to be a Preditor film, and too "modern" to be a alien film. It sucked pretty bad, wasnt the rich old dude meant to be the one they based a android form of ? His age would mean he wouldn't be alive to see ripley fall to her death in the third film, but maybe I'm thinking about it too deeply emoticon

I would make a alien sequal with that £5 mill emoticon

Yeah, thats it, the robots were the "bishop" model, it all makes sense, except the fact he ( the real one, the human ) is meant to be still alive when ripley takes a hot bath.
