harry potter!?

The Issue
The latest "Harry Potter" book to hit schools across Rappers and monkeys has stirred up the greatest controversy yet.

The Debate
"I quite enjoyed the book, until I got to the part where Harry summons evil demons to do his bidding," says religious leader Freddy Jong-Il. "Now that's just wrong. We need to restore some sense to this debate, by which I mean we should remove this book from the shelves, salt it thoroughly, and burn it."
[Accept]

Teachers union President Beth Gutenberg says, "Come on, the book is fantasy! And it's a damn good read. I'd like the government to issue a statement of support for our teachers and librarians, so kids can enjoy good books without interference from religious wackos, like Christians."

This is the position your government is preparing to adopt.
The Government Position
The government has indicated its intention to follow the recommendations of Option 2.

If you wish, you may simply dismiss this issue.

GC, I think that is a serious issue in the real world. There has been a lot in the news about some Christian groups wanting to ban Harry Potter and all things with "witchcraft" in them.

Now it might not be a big issue for politicians in the UK (because we have hardly any church-goers), but imagine places where Christian groups are a lot bigger and therefore have a lot of votes. In America, for example, Bush got a lot of votes from Christians. It's not hard to imagine that if they called for Harry Potter to be banned and he refused, he would lose votes.

Basically it's a question about cencorship. Are you willing to stop a book from being published because it might offend people?

Dealing with this issue shows an important tendency in your government - nothing less than Free Speech is up on the stand here.

I agree GC.

However, this nation state game is a model, and the issues are meant to test your opinion on larger themes than just banning Harry Potter. emoticon
