First recycled issue

Less than three weeks into the game, my first ever issue has popped up again for reconsideration.

I wish I had kept a list of them all, so I could see if my thinking has changed as the game progresses.

Re: First recycled issue

David,

I have used the print page option to track my decisions and to see if things come up again.

I found it funny that by not allowing my Cheese workers to go on strike my tax rate dropped to 20% and my country became a "Capitalist Paradise". I'm new at this but still can't figure how these two relate.

And to boot, crime is now a problem for no specific reason!

It's fun though. Thanks for the link.

One question, what, if any, would be the benefit of joining the UN?

Bill

Well, just guessing because I don't know the exact game rules, but...

By removing the worker's right to strike, you make it easier for the owners of industry to impose any working conditions they want, thereby increasing their profit margins. This explains "Capitalist Paradise".

Now, a capitalist government is traditionally percieved as cheap to run (this may or may not be true in practice) because they don't need provide services such as free healthcare -- it's all provided at profit by non-government corporations. this reduces income tax.

(Note that although your workers are paying less income tax, they're still paying the same money for their services in the long run - it just cuts the government out of the loop. For example, in America you pay your doctor $100 dollars for a consultation. In England, you pay the government $100 income tax and it employs a doctor who sees you for "free".)

Crime has risen because the government isn't raising enough money to fund a police force. Also, you're probably having to expend a lot of police effort to break up illegal strikes.

In real life (and maybe in the game), everything is related to everything else. That's why political problems don't have easy solutions, and why nobody can agree on a single set of "common sense" policies.

Glad you said that David. I am new to games in general and didn't know that issues come up for reconcideration. I would like to keep a record of what I write; just out of curiocity!! emoticon

Well go figure. . . .

This is my second Monday in the game and the "Compulsory Voting" issue came up for a second time.

Is this some kind of record is does everyone experience this?

According to someone who has been playing a long time, you might go weeks without a duplication or you might get one very quickly. They are picked randomly, so it's "the luck of the draw". I suppose if you were really unlucky you might get one issue 10 times in a row... there must be some small statistical chance of that!
