Atlantis

Do you think that there ever was a wonderful, highly advanced civilization, as described by Plato, or was Atlantis no more than a myth, a legend handed down through the generations?

on ricjard and judy this guy was on saying about how they may have found atlantis under water, it seems to have the right geometry etc and theres a mountain like place where there SEEM to be the indents of walls and they made a picture of what it may have looked like down there, of cource noones been down there yet and there are no samples as of yet, but its a theyory and nowadays nearly everyone belives the theyorys as truths (particals, evolution, etc)

also theres that thing about atlantis being ireland (bye england for all those who dont know anything or cant understand what im typing) since it also has a matching geometry to the works of plato. i dont know tho, itd be nice if it were true, or maby not so nice, anyway it would prove that just because were 'advance' dosnt meen its because of modern people.

Where is that <down there> located GC?...
Because you said "...also ...in Ireland ..." I am assuming this "down there" is somewhere else besides. Right? emoticon

The most commonly accepted location, I believe, is the Greek island of Santorini (a volcanic island otherwise known as Thera) in south-east Aegean. Although some other theories are placing Atlantis in Crete and yet others, beyond Gibraltar, in the Atlantic!.... Nothing is proven though. emoticon

i reckon whoever came up with atlantis was probably like me and most artists, taking insperation from several places. i dont think you could ever find the perfect place and perfect charecter for a story in the world, even auto biographys are spiced up to add interest. maby he took insperation from difernt places and mixed it with his imagination. corce i could be wrong, i doubt we'll know realy.

I think Plato is the one who mentioned Atlantis first?

Plato's name is on the book but he claimed to be reporting the words of Critias (who may or may not have been a real person), who claimed to be relating a story told by his grandfather, who claimed to have heard it from Solon, who claimed to have learned it in Egypt.

So which one of them made it up? emoticon

http://www.crystalinks.com/ancientaircraft.html

This link seems to disagree with Alpha's long string concerning the issue of the atomic war. Crystal links says one has happenned and flying stuff was invented and Mohenjo-Daro and Easter Island were also involved in this ancient world, whereas Alpha's string restricts Atlantis to the Minoan civilization we are all familiar with. My question is should we take the Crystal Links interpetation seriously?

Re: Atlantis

plato described atlantis as being set in 5 concentric circles. i think he put was was described to him in terms of city states and what he understood of society and industry at the time (and as being two dimensional ie a multi-walled city at ground level). however there is a 'modern day' equivalent, called 'telos'. reading how it is described is quite an eye-opener.
