Ancient Greek advise...

According to Aristophanes' play "Lyssistrata", the women of Athens and Sparta fed-up by their husbands' persistence to occupy themselves with endless wars between the two cities, decided to stop having sex with them thus "black-mailing" them into putting an end to fighting!...
What would happen if the women in all the world, today, did the same thing? Could it have the same effect?...

emoticon ...Muse, we don't know for sure that it even happened EVER!
This was the plot of the theatrical play "Lyssistrata", written by one of Greece's greatest ancient writers, Aristophanes. In his plays, most of them comedies, Aristophanes sought to satyrically point out the wrongs (or rights) of Greek life of his time!...

Ever? I'd say on a smaller scale this happens in homes all over the world.... emoticon

More seriously, I don't think this would work. It becomes a situation where sex ceases to be about love/relationships and becomes a tool of power. The response from some men would be to take that power back, one way or another.

Oooops...there is another topic...Is sex an expression of love ( so you can't engage in it unless you are in love)...or is it just a natural need that needs to be fed?
Do you "love" your partner the moment you are making love to them or are you satisfiyng that "natural need"?...

Sex, like anything else, is all in how you use it. The intellect behind it is what makes us different from animals. And of course, at times, we may individually choose to be no different from animals.

A conversation - another type of interaction - can express love, hate, anger, amusement, etc. To me, sex is the same. It can certainly be an expression of power, but isn't always. Can be deceptive, can be honest, can be love, can be respectful, can be degrading. There's as many ways to use sex as there are types of people in the world, to my mind. However, for me personally, I wouldn't want to encourage something that presents sex as a tool of power, because I think rape, or at the least resentment, is the inevitable outcome of such a thing.

Today the effect will be none to very little. At the time it was a very closed society today if a wife boycotts sex you can always find someone. People today have sexfriends all over the world so if there is a sex strike in Sparta it's only a few hours away from New York or Rio de Janeiro where you can find lots of it.

He's also the guy who told us that pumping iron felt better than an orgasm, so I would take any of his statements with a pinch of salt...
