posticon What is this new symbolism?

I have seen the religious symbolism on jackets that the teenagers walk around it, and they confuse me.

A specific one that I am curious about is one which I have seen within the last month or so, and it is an emblem of the Madonna and Child, but it is so narrow that it looks more like a Phallic Symbol.

Is this a new perversion of Christianity? We are told not to talk about Christ in public, but why are they permitted to talk about things like the Zodiac and Wicca? They are also religions, and they meet and worship just like Christians do. I am an educator and I hear students talk about their teachers letting them say perverted things in the classroom, and that they are not wrong for doing it, for if they are not Christian, it is not wrong.

Uh, I don't know how to tell you this, but . . . that seems kinda harsh. I mean, I can understand that a person of Christian upbringing (which I assume you are from your subject matter, but if I am wrong, I apologize) would be disappointed in the apparent lack of religion many young people have, but to refer to differences in trends as perversions is a bit presumptuous. For all anyone knows, the narrow icon of the Madonna and Child could just be religious expression with an artistic twist (don't think so? Then listen to Lansky's Notjustmoreidlechatter).

I admit, I am also troubled by the apparent ban on Christianity in school functions, being a chorus girl myself. I will say that the monopoly that many Christians feel they have the right to implement in everyday society may have a lot to do with this; schools are trying to cut down on intolerance, and having an unofficially declared school religion doesn't help keep us poor, pitiful heathens safe from bullies. But like I've said of human rights, it does very little good to lower the majority to the level of the minority, to decrease rights instead of increase them. It really is discrimination, just going in the opposite direction from the previous trend.

And what sort of perverted things are these students talking about, anyway? If you mean along the lines of sexual topics, then I think you're in the wrong business. emoticon I know many people of the previous generations don't feel comfortable with mention of certain things that were not casual discussion topics, but, well, there's no way to stop thinking about it, and today's mentality is, "Well, it's on everyone's mind, so what's the point of pretending it doesn't exist?" That's just how teens are. You can trust me: I still am one, at least for eleven more months.

By the way, astrology isn't a religion. A number of spiritualities use astrology, but it is not in of itself a specific religion that I am aware of.

There are things which Man can not understand. For everything else, there's a lie.

Let's see if we can't get to the truth of the matter, hmm?

Who on earth has told you not to talk about Christ in public? That's a new one on me. Has someone actually forbid you from talking about Christ in public? As in, someone with power? Because if so, that's out of line. Who said this to you, and what were the circumstances?

You are right - astrology is not a relgion, it is an infinitely complex subject and some people believe it works. (I obviously do) But it is not a religion
