Windows XP Sp2

I have posted this on The Support Forums but thought it may fit here as well.

For those using Windows XP (Home and Pro) and have not yet downloaded the latest and greatest SP2 udate, or are thinking about installing the patch, here are some things I found on the net that may be of use..............

First.....

Microsoft has issued a list of nearly 50 software applications and games that may encounter problems with its Windows XP Service Pack 2 update.

This Link will take you to the Cnet news article

Second.......

A very helpful forum called Tech Guy Support Forums has several posts and help on this SP2 upgrade.

HERE

Also take note that the update is huge in size and may take a while should you choose to use it.

Thanx Rusty... This is really useful info for those who are interested in upgrading... As for me, I think I'll stick with Win2k a little bit longer...

Well (knock on wood) I have been using XP Pro for about 4 years now and have been pretty satisified. Only had to reinstall once.

I am waiting for the SP2 before I even think about using the update for Microsoft to fix the fix.

My computer downloaded it without me realising it. I've since had two trojans try to sneak in (my virus software picked them up in time) and ten icons appear on my desktop.

I've changed the settings (again) so that I download updates when I want them but I'm not happy with the way things are going.

I use Mozilla Firefox not IE, and even my homepage was changed.

I was NOT happy! emoticon

I do dsl tech support and we have heard a lot of complaints about the SP2. One of the biggest things is it turning off peoples LAC (ethernet connection) without them knowing.

And I'm still having problems... emoticon

I truly believe that the biggest security risk is Microsoft - so I wouldn't recommend installing SP2.

If someone formats a floppy on Win 2k, is it going to work on Win 98, Me, XP, etc? I feel kinda stupid asking something like that, especially since i've been using computers for the past 15 years, but I have never used Win 2k or NT. emoticon

Yes!. It will work just fine... Up to Win2K the good ole DOS 6.xx is used for this kind of low level functions. So, there will be no problem whatsoever...

Yes it will
 emoticon

I have seen that some stiffies formated on 98 and when you use it in XP it says that the stiffy needs to be formatted, but not always.

Thanks, both of you. Reason i asked was because my brother had a floppy which was formatted on his PC, using win2k; strangely, it could work only on PCs that ran win2k or NT...my computer (winXP) along with everyone else's who had XP or win98 wouldn't even read the floppy.

Hmmm... Check for defective floppy and/or defective drive on your brother's PC... Always perform FULL format (as opposed to QUICK format) for full compatibility between different drives...
