Video Skype Over the past few months I've got a camera, mic and Skype2 and just wanted to say it is the biggest advance in technology since broadband. In fact, it was one of the applications touted as making broadband worthy, and I can now see what they mean.
Yeah, I know they've been around for years already and I've come to this very late on but suddenly it is affordable - the camera cost £15 and the calls are free. The very first second when I saw my brother online my jaw just dropped.
I dreamt of this when I was a kid and now I have it in my lounge! My distant siblings are no longer distant - I see them every week instead of once a year.
Just wondered how many of you use them too on a regular basis ....
Generalley Cool It is cool, though, that what was once considered pure sci-fi is now widly used and cheep, if not free technology...
Yep, that's why the phone companies are going south. Who would pay for using phones to call someone long-distance if they can do it for free plus they have video?
Hell, even the voice-conferences on various IMs are better than telephones, and they are free as well. Sharing files (such as pictures) is free, few people send mail because they can send e-mails and not pay the postage, etc. Long live modern technology!
Re: Video Skype Yup, the quality of voice calls on skype/msn is almost perfect - far better than a crackly old phone line.
I hardly ever pick up the phone now, except to answer it.
I haven't had the bottle to send e-cards only at Christmas yet though - now THAT would be progress.
