posticon Message buttons fail to show in IE6?...

Are there any options to change the theme of the board? Specifically, the yellow text on white buttons on the post area are impossible to read, even though the status text tells you what they mean, it would be wonderful to read them as they were intended.

[EDIT: Topic's title changed so that it indicates the particular issue.]

Welcome aboard ElZorro. Enjoy your stay here...

Now, for the text on the buttons... Hmmm... Should you refer to the msg edit buttons and the like, this is how they look like in Opera, IE5.5 and Netscape:

You're obviously on IE6, right? I remember I've dealed with this particular problem recently and it's an IE6 settings problem if memory serves. I'll see to it compatibility-wise. Nevertheless, to the best of my knowledge, a couple of refreshes on your part should fix it... Try it and let me know of the outcome...

Alpha, I'm still having that same problem, and refresh doesn't do a thing. If you don't fix it, I'll have to question my estimation of you as supreme commander of all things computer. Hmmm, "Computer Greek" would be a good title.... emoticon

In your source, the button text appears to FFDD00 which is yellow, but the background image http://img20.photobucket.com/albums/v60/farfrontiers/buttons/ButtonBG.gif does not show up, either because the server is too slow to load the image, or something to with IE not liking the code. The default button color is a gray, almost white, so I would just use a darker default font for those who can't see the background image, any light color will look good with the background you want, but someting other than yellow will also be visible on the gray buttons. Just my 2c.

That's exactly how it is. Now, does the said link to the image background work for you at all? It loads pretty fast for me even when clicking on it... How about you?

If I enter the link directly, I can see the gif just fine, but the buttons won't load it as a background. I can say, that the site loads fairly slowly, so by the time everything is loaded the gif may be getting bypassed.
I even tried deleting the content, which only made the window change size, did nothing to the colors. I wonder, if you put the graphic code farther up the page, or closer to the button code, maybe inline with it, so that it loads sooner, if that might work. Anyway, I certainly don't want to come in here and stir things up :)

Ok, then... possible image server's failure has been ruled out...

Hmmm... Not so fast... You see, all other browsers and versions (but IE v.6.00) have no problem no matter how slow or fast the board loads... It seems that IE6 on your side is set up to display buttons in its own way, overriding the page's settings. I suggest you disable this option (whatevet that might be) in order for the custom board buttons to override this particular setting of your browser. Maybe some other member using IE6 would be able to guide you through this... (I use the Opera browser myself, so I wouldn't know what to tell you).

Can't do so much about it, for, you see, eventhough I maintain a custom HTML section here, the main HTML code structure is generated by the RunBoard engine on the fly... This is a remote hosted board, mind you...

Feel free to report and/or ask about any glitch or possible bug that you might come across with. After all no cake would ever have been made if it weren't for stirring (up)... emoticon

BTW: Wouldn't the Z sign look better in your sig? You can use BBtags in your sig too, you know... emoticon

Ok, going to find the workaround for the buttons. I'll do the sig thing too. Back here when I have a solution.

Re: Board

Got it. It's affected by XP's visual style settings. Applying visual styles to buttons and pages. I'm running within a virtual machine right now with styles turned off, and I see everything perfectly. Since IE is integrated into XP, it's probably got something to do with the way it handles styles too. Once I turned off "use visual styles on buttons and windows" it worked fine. Of course, that's a CSS coding error, there should be some sort of alternate display, but anyway, at least it's a start.

Anybody else wants to apply this, go to "Control Panel" > "System" > "Advanced" > Performance. Then uncheck "use visual styles on windows and buttons"

More to come.

Great! Although, no CSS coding error whatsoever. As for the altrnate display, we can't have that since it requires javascript to resolve each user's browser and settings; and the use of javascript has been disabled on RunBoard for security reasons... Keep it coming, tho.

Yea, it's a visual style issue. If you disable IE"s visual styles, and go back to original windows colors, they look fine, but then, disabling styles defeats the purpose of having styles to begin with. If coding can't be changed to have those buttons be graphics instead of actual button code, then there's not much you can do about it other than use the tooltips that pop up, or use a different browser, or change the button text color to something darker. If I find anything about changing this I'll post it.

Good ole Microsoft: "You either have it the way that WE meant it to be or no way at all..." No wonder IE6 is not an exception to that...... emoticon
